Dungeness Crab Wall Sculpture hand carved
The smaller version of the Dungeness Crab Wall Sculpture is offered on the site for the crab and sea
themed lover.
Hand carved by California Wildlife artist, Richard Vest, the piece utilizes Tennessee Red Cedar as the wood of choice. It is a beautiful wood with some yellow sapwood and deep red heartwood making it the ideal wood for the crab.
This artist holds a fondness for the crab image as his father ran 12 salmon boats out of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf for over 30 years and also a crab fisherman. Growing up his father would bring 6 cleaned crab home on Sunday nights for the family.
This piece is the smaller version of the larger offered on the site. It measures approximately 12" x 16" and is about 2.5" thick. It is for indoor display only with brass placed saw tooth hangers on the reverse, ready for wall mounting. A hand rubbed Tung Oil finish brings out the grain and color of the piece.
Richard uses a torch to high light and darken edges bringing out the depth of the piece. Each is an original with it's own grain, color, texture, and personality. No two are alike.
All work is copyrighted- a signed Authenticity Certificate accompanies each piece
