This African Animal Grouping Wall Sculpture, hand carved by California wildlife artist, Richard Vest, is one of his most beautiful and challenging pieces.
This carving includes the Zebra, Giraffe, Black Rhino, African Elephant and the Lion.
Working from his own drawings, the artist created a wonderful flow in the piece, placing each animal together forming a very well balanced piece.
This is the first in a series of African animal groupings, The artist chose his favorite animals in the work.
If you have your own favorite African animals the artist can carve you a beautiful grouping such as this with your choice.
He will take a commission sending you the drawings ahead of time for approval before starting the work.
The artist renders the drawings in graphite pencil, full size, so you can place it up on your wall getting a feel of how the piece will look.
The wall sculpture is a large piece measuring approximately 32" high by 39" across , perfect for a large wall. It is approximately 4 inches thick.
Alder is the wood of choice for all the animals except the Zebra, which is carved in hard rock Maple.
He uses black staining for the Zebra stripes and a light gray staining for the Elephant, separating it from the rest of the group, giving it the feeling of an Elephant dust bath in color.
This work takes several months to complete starting with the drawings to the final Tung oil finish.
The artist carves each animal individually in the main part of the sculpture, then carves the Giraffe and Zebra separately attaching them to the back, created a visual depth in the work.
The carving is signed and copyrighted, for indoor display only.
