Village girls often gather water from rivers or ponds, sometimes bathing during summer. One evening, I watched a girl return home at twilight, carrying an earthen jar. As the birds settled and the sky faded into bluish-purple, the riverbank grew quiet once more—only whispers of water and crickets remained.
