Sentinels of the Ancient River
This large-scale work is an exploration of myth and time, rendered in a style of dramatic abstract realism. It depicts the colossal Gates of Argonath, with the stone kings rising from the jagged cliffs in a blend of sharp, representational detail and explosive, expressive brushwork.
The painting utilizes a heavy impasto technique, particularly in the rock faces and the robes of the kings, where thick palette knife applications simulate centuries of erosion and weathered stone. I integrated a traditional chiaroscuro lighting scheme, with dramatic "god-rays" piercing through a slate-gray sky to illuminate the turbulent, churning waters of the Anduin below. The piece aims to capture the sheer scale and ancient weight of the subject through tactile texture and a sophisticated, earth-toned palette.
