Leshovikha (Les-hov-ika)
Deep, deep in the dense Czechoslovakian, now Czech Republic and Slovakia woodlands wander many unseen nature spirits. They dwell in it’s darkness. Watching.
These spirits talk with the creatures inhabiting the forest and can control the woodland winds, thus moving around the foliage to send messages across their treasured lands.
Some of these spirits are assigned to protect the waters that flow through the lands, and some help to heal the creatures that live in the forest growth.
Others are assigned to protect the woodlands, like Leshovikha.
Leshovikha lives together with the other woodland spirits in peace, helping each other protect their sacred woodlands from harm.
Leshovikha is the cursed human wife of the elusive Leshy. The magical protector of the woodlands.
It is said that Leshovikha was driven out of her village into the woodlands where Leshy found her and made her his wife.
The couple have multiple children, some of which are theirs, some of which are the ones Leshy had kidnapped when they wandered into the woods away from their parents.
Leshovakha uses natural objects like stones and gems to draw energy from the earth to commune with her land. She combines her energy with that of the woods to heal wounded animals or plants from sickness.
Leshovikha usually doesn’t enjoy hurting humans. But she does delight in playing tricks on travelers who do not respect their woodlands.
She especially finds great joy in leading lone travelers astray if they were caught making fire in her forest sanctuary.
Angered, she was known to follow these wandering souls and lead them deep into the forest to get them lost.
Once these souls become weary and cry out for help she will appear to them and ask what they desire most, fortune or a good life.
If the travelers choose money Leshovikha rewards them with golden coins. But... these coins turn into coal the moment they set foot out of her woodland realm.
However if they wish for a good life, Leshovikha honors her promise, leads them out of the forest and the mortals will enjoy success in all their endeavors.
Once safe, the travelers learn to respect the woodland inhabitants and take only what they need.
So, the next time you go for a walk in the woodlands and you hear the rustle of the leaves or the chirping of the birds, remember these guardians of the woodlands are all around.
They are ever watching.
