The Spinal Column, Tribute to Brâncuși

Constantin Brâncuși (1876–1957) was a Romanian sculptor and a pioneer of modernism, renowned for his ability to capture the essence of form through simplicity and purity.

The Spinal Column is a contemporary homage to Brâncuși’s artistic legacy, created for and selected in a curated art competition dedicated to his work, organized under the auspices of UNAPC Romania and presented at the Mihai Eminescu Cultural Center in Bucharest.

Through this painting, I sought to express simplicity and the vital need for breathing space in art — a need I believe all artists have felt, Brâncuși above all.

The Spinal Column becomes a symbol of unity between the artist and the artwork: the column as a pillar, the portrait as a catalytic center. Inspired by Brâncuși’s way of revealing essence through pure lines and reduced forms, I chose a simplified visual language.

The restrained color palette and clean lines evoke the feeling of sculpture and quiet refinement. The open space and light invite reflection and meditation, echoing the timeless silence present in Brâncuși’s work.
