Release of Venus
In “Release of Venus” there are my personal feelings towards some of my own canvases. I wanted to show the torment of the artist in his studio. How creation sometimes can become emotionally dangerous. The sculptor kneels before his work — muse, ideal, and beloved. She seems to awaken into living flesh. His gesture is both reverent and anguished: he must pay the cost of bringing beauty to life. It’s the paradox of artistic creation — the deeper the devotion, the greater the necessary sacrifice to let it go, travel the world. To truly give life to his creation, the artist must also grant her freedom, and in doing so accept separation. Around him, in his studio, the sculpted head to the side appears tense, almost jealous. So when art comes alive, the artist must let it go.
